Computer Assisted Pre - operative LaryngoscopyM

چکیده
Laryngoscopy is a widely used technique in anaesthesia, in which a tube is inserted into the larynx of the patient to allow controlled ventilation of the lungs during an operation. The anaesthetist uses a special instrument, the laryngoscope, to push the tongue down and expose the vocal cords and larynx. In the majority of cases a clear view can be obtained and the tube can be inserted easily. However there are a signiicant number of patients where the view is poor or the larynx cannot be seen at all. In these cases intubation can be very diicult and in certain circumstances failure to intubate quickly can be life threatening. We have developed a computer system for pre-operative assessment of patients to help anaesthetists to identify and deal with diiculty laryngoscopy. It allows the anaesthetist to go through some important steps simulating a real laryngoscopy before the procedure is done on a particular patient. We expect this prototype to be usefull for a number of tasks. These include the formulation of eeective strategies for diicult intubation such as the use of other intubation procedures, the evaluation of current and new laryngoscope blade designs and building a valid three-dimensional computer laryngoscopy model.

Predicting Target Vessel Location for Improved Planning of Robot-Assisted CABG Procedures
Prior to performing a robot-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting procedure, a pre-operative computed tomography scan is used to assess patient candidacy and to identify the location of the target vessel. The surgeon then determines the optimal port locations to ensure proper reach to the target with the robotic instruments, while assuming that the heart does not undergo any significant chan...
متن کاملComputer assisted surgery. Its usefulness in different levels of pre-operative deformities.
OBJECTIVE To compare the results obtained with computer assisted surgery with conventional techniques and evaluate the influence of navigation at different levels of preoperative deformity. MATERIAL AL METHOD A retrospective study was conducted on 100 cases with primary total knee arthroplasty performed with conventional or computer assisted surgery. A comparison was made of the post-operativ...
متن کاملLimb alignment in computer-assisted minimally-invasive unicompartmental knee replacement.
Twenty patients underwent simultaneous bilateral medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Pre-operative hip-knee-ankle alignment and valgus stress radiographs were used to plan the desired post-operative alignment of the limb in accordance with established principles for unicompartmental arthroplasty. In each patient the planned alignment was the same for both knees. Overall, the mean planned...
متن کاملComputer-assisted knee arthroplasty versus a conventional jig-based technique. A randomised, prospective trial.
We have compared a new technique of computer-assisted knee arthroplasty with the current conventional jig-based technique in 70 patients randomly allocated to receive either of the methods. Post-operative CT was performed according to the Perth CT Knee Arthroplasty protocol and pre- and post-operative Maquet views of the limb were taken. Intra-operative and peri-operative morbidity data were co...
